The island landscape of Maine is notoriously difficult to paint. Something about representations of spruces, granite rocks, and pretty water can become tiresome, possibly because the real enchilada is so beautiful. In summer, it's a very high contrast world; when the fog comes in, a very low contrast one.
When it is bright, everything seems to be in motion. This is an impasto acrylic technique intended to create motion and glimmer. More to follow...
